Rugby at the North Pole? Are you mad?

This blog will chart a light-hearted view of the progress (and sometimes struggle) of my preparations, participation and aftermath of our Arctic Challenge to play the world's most northerly rugby match in history in April 2015.

The three week expedition will be led by Arctic veteran, Jock Wishart and our two teams of Challengers will be captained by rugby legends Tim Stimpson (Ex-England and British & Irish Lions) and Ollie Phillips (Ex-England 7s Captain). We will set out from Resolute Bay, Canada and ski/trek the final 100 miles in Arctic conditions over frozen sea and land to reach the Magnetic North Pole before playing the northernmost rugby match in history; setting a Guinness World Record in the process.

Training and preparations are well underway and we recently had our second away weekend to go through the kit that will allow us to survive harrowing winds, polar bears, temperatures as low as -50C, open waters and overcome physical and mental fatigue; all in the name of charity and to raise valuable funds to help change the lives of physically, socially and mentally disadvantaged children throughout the UK.
